Wildwood

In early August, we went down to Wildwood, NJ with Derrick's family.  Jack was last there when he was 10 months old.  It was a very different experience this time around.  Here is an overview of some things Jack did.

Climbing the beachballs in front of the big sign.

We rented bikes for the week.  This was Jack's choice.

Some of the mornings we took rides up and down the boardwalk,

Jack and Derrick got to ride in the back of a monster truck.

Riding the tram car.

We spent plenty of time on the boardwalk.

Jack showing off what he won with arcade tickets.
Note another panda win, this one with boba tea.

Jack discovered rides in Wildwood.
I have already purchased advance ride tickets for the Fair in anticipation.

"Jazz cars" were one of his favorites.

Pretending to pour and drink tea in the teacups.
Riding above the pier in a pirate ship.

We also went to the Wildwood Aviation Museum, which was interesting.

There was a little bit of space stuff too.

Jack had a good time.

We also took Jack kayaking for the first time, which he did pretty well at.

Space

In between vacations, we visited the JFK Library for Space Fest which celebrated the 50th anniversary of the moon landing.

Jack got to make a paper rocket and then shoot it with a
contraption the MIT kids had brought with them.

Jack also learned how to write his name in code.  Very serious business.

Wells

Summer is winding down and we're getting ready for school to start, so why not catch up on posting stuff we did this summer?
We went to Wells, Maine again this year for a few nights around Fourth of July and it was a fun time.

Another trip to the Maine Diner, of course.

Some boogie board practice.

First sunburn and first soft serve (twist).  Now a big fan of the latter.

Jack found a four leaf clover.

Spent some time in the pool.

Jack honed his skee ball skills.

And got enough tickets to get this stuffed panda to add to the collection.

We took a trip to the Seashore Trolley Museum in Kennebunkport.

Jack was partly distracted from complaining
by getting to climb aboard and explore some of the cars.

We hung out at the beach on the evening of July 4th.

We were able to get see multiple fireworks shows from surrounding towns.

More posts to follow!

Gigantic June Update

We made it to Salem Willows early in the season this year.

Old flip movies, good parenting.

Hockey with dad.

Jack enjoyed playing some games and winning tickets.

Checking out the newly opened pier.

Jack and I joined his school in marching in the Pride Parade in Boston.  It was a lot of standing around waiting and then a long walk.  Jack was a trooper and was proud of his new walking distance record of 3.5 miles.

Jack successfully completed first grade and participated in the end of year performance of the Lion King with the rest of his class.

That's Jack, second in from the left, in his self-made monkey costume.

Celebratory donut at Kanes after the performance.

Then there was a fishing event at Endicott Park for Father's Day.

Time in the sand at the local beach,

At the end of the month, we made the yearly pilgrimage up to Maine for family weekend.

The Maine Diner apparently has new owners, and now the pancakes are even bigger.

We went and dug for gems.

It was a lot of work.

But we found some cool specimens.  (See ziploc bag full in Jack's hand.)

Round one of the first s'mores of the season.

Next day, wood stacking to prepare for round two.

Round two, with newly installed heat shield and stick rest.
