Jack had his 18-month checkup last week. He did well and was even pleasant despite getting poked and prodded and a shot at the end. Jack is now 34.5" tall and weighs just about 29 pounds.
Among the usual questions, the doctor did ask me how much Jack is talking and if he's trying to repeat what we say. When I said no to the repeating part and that he only says a couple of words, which I had been wondering about anyway, she suggested a hearing test since Jack had two ear infections recently in pretty close succession.
So, off we went later that week to Children's to get a hearing test. Jack did great tolerating stuff being put in his ears and having to wear headphones and all that. Long story short, Jack's hearing is fine, but he does still have a lot of fluid in his left ear, so they want to keep an eye on it since this is kind of a critical period for him to be hearing clearly.
Then in typical Jack fashion, last weekend he suddenly started trying to repeat things we were saying and since then has added "blue" and "shell" to his very small repertoire…

I am not a Doctor, but have heard over the years, that ear problems (fluid, infections) seem more prevalent in boys. When Travis was about Jack's age he had to have tubes put in his ears. It's funny how he started repeating words after the Doctor asked about it.

Yay, Jack! Happy half birthday. And I love the discreetly placed panda.
